Hi, I'm Debbie Bredemus
I am a painter, illustrator and photographer. I have degrees from Northern Illinois University, Herron School of Art in Indianapolis, and Indiana University. My husband and I have 4 daughters, 10 grand children and 4 adorable great grand babies.
The funny thing is, when entering college, my parents and university counselors all insisted that a teaching degree was what I needed, especially since I was female. So I ended up teaching for 35 years before I was able to become a full time artist. Not that it was a bad thing, I sincerely loved those high school kids with their boundless energy and endless talents. Teaching was wonderful and it also allowed me to gain bundles of experience with many mediums, techniques and styles. I was the Art Department Head at a large high school in Indianapolis, as well as an evening adjunct college professor for future art teachers. I was an initiator, writer and teacher of the gifted program at the high school level and was Prelude Award Indiana Arts Educator of the year. I've received a nice Wal-Mart Award for outstanding teachers. I also became a Stutz Art and Business Center (Indianapolis) artist.
I work in many different media, but my favorites are oil painting and epoxy resin. Oil painting, because I can portray what I see as beautiful (such as in my Secret Garden Series), and resin, because it is so spontaneous and somewhat uncontrollable. I enjoy inventing and trying new things.
We decided to retire south to Texas last year. We quickly found that the historic town of Bastrop was the perfect location for us.
